You are invited to: “Gender Reassignment in the Workplace" CPD – 1 hour

Date: Monday 20 February 2012

Time: 5:30 – 7:00 pm (wine & cheese provided)

Venue: Holiday Inn Taunton

A free information event given by Robin White of Old Square Chambers. Robin has practised in all aspects of employment, equality and discrimination law for 16 years and was a manager in industry for 5 years before that. In August 2011 she became the first barrister at the employment bar to transition in practice from male to female.

The best statistics are that one in 5,000 of the UK population will undertake gender reassignment. So most medium and large employers will have to deal with the difficult issues that this can generate. Solicitors with any significant client base are likely to have to advise in this area.

  • Do you understand the transition process and how it affects the individual and other workers?
  • Can you negotiate safely through the minefield of appropriate and inappropriate terminology?
  • What does the law protect and what not?
  • Would you be confident in assisting an employer to manage an employee transitioning in the workplace?
  • How does gender reassignment interact with religious rights?
  • Could you bring or defend a claim of gender reassignment discrimination?

Robin will be openly discussing all of these issues.

RSVP by 13 February using this link: http://gritw.eventbrite.co.uk, to reserve your place on what is sure to be a very interesting and informative event.
